Commencing in 2007, Richard J. Idell began offering mediation and arbitration services to the Bay Area legal community. Richard is the principal and founding member of The Idell Firm and he has been practicing law since 1976. He has had both a trial and transactional practice and has handled a wide range of litigation matters in both State and Federal Court in the last 30 years, involving complex business disputes, complex investment banking transactions, including tax shelters, copyright, trademark, unfair competition, trade secret, Internet law (including Internet trademark and copyright issues, domain name disputes and related matters), entertainment law, real estate matters, estate and trust litigation, construction disputes, professional negligence (including complex attorney-client fee disputes, attorney malpractice, accountancy malpractice, architectural malpractice and insurance broker negligence claims), insurance matters and tort claims. He has experience in hundreds of settlement conferences, mediations and arbitrations as attorney, mediator, arbitrator, and pro-tem settlement judge. Richard completed 40 hours of mediation training with Steve Rosenberg Mediation. He also has had mediation training in the California Lawyers for the Arts Mediation and Arbitration Program. In addition, he received ADR training through continuing education through the American Bar Association including: “Arbitration Performance and Demeanor – Meeting Participant Expectations”, 2018; “American Arbitration Association – Clarity in Award Writing”, 2017; “American Bar Association – What’s In and What’s Out: Recent Developments In Arbitral Jurisdiction, 2016; American Arbitration Association – Crossing the Line: New Developments in the Law of Arbitral Jurisdiction”, 2015; “American Arbitration Association – Managing the Arbitration Process for Efficiency & Economy Following the Preliminary Hearing”, 2013; “American Arbitration Association – Arbitration Fundamentals and Best Practices for New Arbitrators”, 2010.  Mr. Idell has served on the ADR panels of the United States District Court, Northern District of California, Marin County Superior Court and the Superior Court of California of the City and County of San Francisco. In addition, Mr. Idell is on the mediation panel of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Mr. Idell is also on arbitration panel and mediation panel of the American Arbitration Association. He obtained an A.B. from the University of California at Berkeley in1970 and his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1975. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1976. He practiced law with the Honorable Judge Carlos Bea of the Ninth Circuit from 1977 to 1986, forming the predecessor to The Idell Firm in that year.
